LSRFUR Representatives Join Edinburgh Exchange
The London Society of Rugby Football Union Referees (LSRFUR) was proudly represented by Cyril Brognard (SW) and Ben Stone (W) during a fantastic three-day exchange in Edinburgh, hosted by the Edinburgh Rugby Referee Society.
The team arrived in Edinburgh on Friday evening and were warmly welcomed by their brilliant hosts, Gordon Grant and Iain Young, from the Edinburgh Society. The evening kicked off with a delightful meal at a tapas restaurant in the heart of the city, where plans for the weekend’s refereeing duties were finalized for Ben and Cyril.
Saturday Highlights The action began on Saturday morning with Cyril refereeing an exciting school game between George Watson’s College and Stewart’s Melville College. The match was a high-scoring affair [insert score] and showcased fast-paced attacking rugby, giving Cyril the chance to demonstrate his excellent fitness and speed. Cyril was mic’d up during the game, allowing Iain and Ben to review his performance and appreciate his officiating style—accentuated by his French flair, which added an enjoyable twist for the Scottish players!

In the afternoon, the team headed to the northern part of Edinburgh, where Ben took charge of a match between Edinburgh Northern and Haddington. While this game was slightly scrappier than the morning’s school clash, it was tightly contested and ended in a dramatic 28-28 draw, with a last-minute penalty sealing the result.

Saturday Evening and Cultural Exchange After the games, the group enjoyed some well-earned relaxation, heading into the city to watch Edinburgh take on Benetton. The evening was capped off with dinner and a visit to a renowned whisky bar, where Gordon treated Ben and Cyril to a taste of Scotland’s finest.
Exploring Edinburgh Sunday allowed some time for sightseeing, as Ben and Cyril explored the magical Edinburgh Christmas markets and soaked up the festive atmosphere of this beautiful city. With their hosts ensuring the trip was seamless from start to finish, the pair departed Edinburgh later that day, reflecting on a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching exchange.
