THE FOLLOWING UPDATE IS PROVIDED BY LSRFUR GENERAL SECRETARY - PETER COULTHARD.
The proposed changes to the Constitution are predominantly designed to reduce the size of the Committees, and allow them to focus on the key areas for which they are responsible (governance, strategy and oversight for Management Committee, developing match officials for the renamed Match Officials Development Committee and executing operational matters through the new ad-hoc Operations Committee).
The changes realign roles to the Committees that they are most relevant too, and aims to ensure that the Society can continue to effectively develop and grow match officiating in this changing landscape. Through an ad-hoc Operations Committee, the vital work of organising some of the critical aspects of the Society can continue, but in a manner that allows us to be more agile and adapt to changing circumstances, while at the same time ensuring that Committees do not become overly large and inefficient. In addition to these central changes, the role of Social Secretaries within the regions shall be formalised, recognising the importance placed on the Society’s social and community aspects.
Additional minor changes include provision being made to enable elections to be held in a differing format where required due to circumstances beyond our control (i.e. a global pandemic is not suited to in person paper voting), and to amend and update the Society rules to modernise them (reflecting the changing technological landscape) and to clarify the position regarding taxis claimed back from clubs.
